This (Maple?) leaf lying on the sidewalk caught my eye on my out of work this evening. I can't put my finger on why, but I really like it.

I try to take these shots in the mornings, but today I wasn't able to until after noon. I am learning more about the effects of lighting in my photography.

Autumn Leaves II

Leaf experts are predicting that lack of moisture and unseasonable warmth are making for a relatively bland-colored autumn. I'm starting to second guess the awesomeness of my Autumn Leaves idea.

Bye Bye Bodie

On my way out of town, I stopped by to say hi to the Bodie Lighthouse. The morning had been overcast and grey, but blue sky started peeking through in the early afternoon. It was a nice way to say "till next year" to Hatteras Island.

O'er the Hill

I like the coastal sand dunes along the Outer Banks. You hear the ocean, you smell the ocean ... but you can't ... quite ... see it.
... Then you crest a dune and, **bam**, are hit with this enormous expanse of blue.

Ivan

This very large, red spider made several webs around the front porch of our beach house. I named him Ivan. This is the best picture that I got of him, even though I made several attempts.

Duality

I've had a really difficult time getting these resized and posted, but I'm pretty happy with the result. This twofer narrowly beat out another pic for today, which I call Pathway to Paradise.

Promise Fulfilled

In January, I promised myself that I would go to the beach this year. It took scheming, finagling, and even flat-out lying to get myself here, but I did it.

New Toy

I'm totally in love with Ruben.
He rids my floor of husky fur and assorted debris, then quietly retreats to his alcove to rest. "If you need me," he offers soothingly, "I'll be right over here."

The Sky Is Falling!

Part of the roof of my work building came crashing down today around lunch time. The guy whose office window broke was, fortunately, not there at the time (thank God for meetings!) but it scared the bajezzus out of the guy and girl in the offices on either side of the broken widow; not to mention all the rest of us who heard the crash, boom, bang!
A kinda funny thing is that the area upon which the roof segment fell is where the office smokers generally gather. Heh, heh ... talk about an anti-smoking incentive!

Campaign Eyesore

I drive through this intersection almost every day. Today, I took a shot from my car window while waiting at the light. What you can't see is that the campaign litter continues for another 30 feet or so behind me. I'd like to find a prospect not represented here and give that person my vote.

Autumn Leaves: A Series

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that this maple tree outside of my office building was starting to bear witness to the beginnings of autumn. I decided today that I will take a weekly picture of it, as a way to chronicle the season.
