"We try to grab piece of our lives as they speed past us. Photographs freeze those pieces and help us remember how we were. We don't know these lost people but if you look around, you'll find someone just like them." Gene McSweeney

Roadside Memorial

These two headstones sprout up from a small hillside that separates a very busy shopping area from an even busier highway. They have survived to a time and place when thousands of cars daily whiz along very close to the intersection of Interstate 66 and the Capital Beltway, I-495. I myself whiz by every morning on my way in to work. Once before I stopped and read what I could off the markers. I don't usually take this road on the way home, because of the dense traffic, but I ran an errand after work today that made this road the logical choice to take home. I was thinking about my photo for today when I found myself coming up to the intersection.
I especially love the two orbs of light reflected in the buildings across the road. I didn't notice these until I downloaded the pics from my memory card. See the stones closer up here and here. I found only one website that mentions this lovely roadside memorial.
(Post script - The cemetery is documented in multiple places as the Thompson Family Cemetery.)
